Sulma Mansuri

Senior Partner

Sulma Mansuri is the Senior Partner at Phillips Solicitors, heads the firm’s Wills & Probate Department and is an experienced Criminal Defence Lawyer. Having joined the firm in 1998, she has played a central role in its development and growth whilst continuing to maintain a strong commitment to client care and access to justice.

Sulma’s background is somewhat unusual for a criminal defence solicitor. Before entering the legal profession, she spent many years in academia and holds a BA (Hons), MPhil and PhD, before later completing her legal qualifications through the Common Professional Examination (CPE) and Legal Practice Course (LPC).

Since joining Phillips Solicitors, Sulma has spent significant periods working across the firm’s various departments. This experience has given her a broad understanding of the wide range of legal services provided by the firm and the challenges faced by both private and legally aided clients. In addition to her criminal defence work, she leads the firm’s Wills & Probate Department and oversees the strategic direction of the practice as Senior Partner.

Sulma’s decision to become a lawyer was driven by a desire to help people and a strong belief that justice should be accessible to everyone. She has always felt that legal aid practice was a natural fit, allowing her to work in an area of law where she could make a meaningful difference to the lives of individuals and families who might otherwise struggle to access legal support.

A key principle throughout Sulma’s career has been the belief that quality legal representation should not be available only to those who can afford it. She is passionate about ensuring that people receive high-quality advice and representation regardless of their financial circumstances and values being part of a profession that seeks to uphold fairness and access to justice for all.

As the firm has grown, Sulma has remained committed to maintaining the values that have always been important to Phillips Solicitors. She believes that clients should be able to build trusted relationships with their lawyers and receive a personal, approachable service. Her aim is that Phillips Solicitors continues to feel like a traditional high street practice, where clients know they will receive honest advice, practical support and, where we can’t help, signposting who will be able to assist.

Outside of work, Sulma is an avid reader with a love of food, travel and experiencing different cultures. She jokingly describes her travel ambitions as eating her way around the globe.
