Neil Taylor

Solicitor and Equity Partner

Neil Taylor is an Equity Partner and Solicitor at Phillips Solicitors. He is based primarily at the Mansfield office but works across all of the firm’s offices. His legal practice is focused mainly on criminal defence, alongside his wider responsibilities for the management and development of the firm.

Neil’s career with Phillips Solicitors began when he came to the firm for work experience. He was subsequently offered a training contract and joined the firm as a Trainee Solicitor in 2013. After qualifying as a solicitor in 2015, Neil progressed to become a salaried partner and is now an Equity Partner.

Before entering the legal profession, Neil completed a BSc in Computing in 2007. He later completed his LLB and Legal Practice Course in 2011. His background in computing gives him a particular interest in cases involving technical or digital evidence.

During his time at Phillips Solicitors, Neil has gained experience in every department within the firm. His work is now primarily within criminal defence, where he has handled the full range of cases, from murder and high-value fraud allegations to more commonly encountered offences such as theft and public order matters. He works on cases at every stage of the criminal justice process.

Neil understands that clients often come to a criminal defence solicitor at one of the most difficult and uncertain points in their lives. He aims to provide clear advice, practical support and reassurance, helping clients understand the allegations against them and the options available. He finds it particularly rewarding to see clients achieve the right outcome and receive the wider support they need.

Access to justice is central to Neil’s approach. He believes that everyone should have the opportunity to challenge allegations made against them and to receive proper advice and representation, regardless of their personal circumstances. He is also a strong believer in equality and in ensuring that every client is treated fairly, respectfully and without judgement.

Neil grew up in Nottingham and continues to live locally, giving him strong knowledge of Nottinghamshire and the communities the firm serves. Outside of work, he is a Nottingham Forest season ticket holder, and has a keen interest in the latest technology.
