Mark Marriott

Consultant Solicitor, Family Department

Mark Marriott is a Consultant Solicitor in the Family Department at Phillips Solicitors. Having joined the firm in 1996, he has dedicated much of his career to representing parents and family members involved in public law children proceedings, helping clients navigate some of the most challenging circumstances they may ever face.

Mark was admitted as a solicitor in 1996, but his commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals began long before he entered the legal profession. Prior to training as a lawyer, he worked as a welfare rights adviser and later qualified and practised as a social worker. This varied professional background has given him a unique perspective, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by many of the clients he represents today.

Mark’s work is focused primarily on public children law, representing parents and family members involved in care proceedings and other cases concerning children. He has a longstanding interest in both public children law and criminal defence work, areas where individuals often require skilled representation, practical support, and a strong advocate in their corner.

Throughout his career, Mark has been motivated by a belief that everyone deserves a fair opportunity to have their voice heard. He is passionate about helping clients understand the legal process, protecting their interests and ensuring they can fully participate in decisions that may have a profound impact on their lives and families.

What Mark enjoys most about his work is helping clients stand up for their rights and ensuring they are not overwhelmed by the processes and organisations they encounter. He recognises that many clients can feel powerless when facing legal proceedings and takes pride in helping them understand their options, make informed decisions, and pursue the best possible outcome for themselves and their families.

With three decades at Phillips Solicitors, Mark brings extensive experience, sound judgement, and a genuine commitment to representing some of the most vulnerable members of society. His background in welfare rights, social work and law enables him to bring a broad and practical perspective to every case he handles.

Outside of work, Mark has a strong interest in social justice and the issues that affect vulnerable and disadvantaged people. His professional and personal interests reflect a longstanding commitment to fairness, equality and supporting those whose voices are often overlooked.
