Deborah Bell

Solicitor and Head of Crime

Deborah Bell is a Solicitor and Head of our Criminal Defence Department. She specialises in all areas of criminal defence and represents clients facing allegations ranging from murder and other serious offences to theft and public order matters.

Deborah joined Phillips Solicitors in July 2020, bringing with her more than 20 years’ experience gained at a respected high street practice in the Ashfield area. She has also worked at a specialist criminal law firm in Manchester, dealing with serious and complex cases including murder and large-scale drug conspiracies, as well as at a busy criminal practice in Nottingham city centre. This varied background has given her extensive experience of advising and representing clients across the full range of criminal cases.

Deborah holds an LLB (Hons) Law degree, which she achieved in 1993. Throughout her career, she has developed considerable knowledge and practical experience in criminal defence, including the preparation and conduct of serious and complex cases.

As Head of the Criminal Defence Department, Deborah combines her leadership responsibilities with her commitment to client work. She is dedicated to ensuring that every client receives the same high standard of representation, regardless of the allegation they face. She understands that facing a criminal investigation or prosecution can be one of the most difficult and uncertain experiences in a person’s life. She takes pride in providing clear, straightforward advice when it is needed most and helping clients understand their position and the legal process they are facing.

Her broad experience enables her to approach each case with care, sound judgement, and close attention to detail. Whether dealing with a serious and complex prosecution or a less serious allegation, Deborah ensures that each client’s case receives the time, preparation, and commitment it deserves.

Outside of work, Deborah enjoys music, reading and settling down with a good television programme or film.
