Police Station Representative and Trainee Solicitor, Criminal Defence Department

Courtney Neale is a Police Station Representative and Trainee Solicitor in the Criminal Defence Department at Phillips Solicitors. Based at the firm’s Mansfield office, she assists clients throughout the criminal justice process, from police station interviews through to the preparation and progression of cases before the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court.

Courtney joined Phillips Solicitors in September 2025 and is continuing to develop her career within criminal defence. She holds an LLM in Law and Legal Practice with SQE 1, achieved in 2025, and is furthering her professional qualifications through the Legal Practice Course.

Before joining Phillips Solicitors, Courtney gained valuable experience working within criminal law and legal support roles. These early opportunities provided strong foundations in client care, case preparation, legal research and criminal defence work. Since joining Phillips Solicitors, she has continued to build on those foundations, expanding her experience in police station representation and supporting cases across all stages of criminal proceedings.

Courtney has a particular interest in criminal law and enjoys working in an area where she can make a meaningful difference to people’s lives. She regularly assists clients through what can be one of the most stressful and uncertain experiences they will ever face, helping them understand the process and access the advice and support they need.

What Courtney enjoys most about her role is helping people when they are at their most vulnerable. She believes that clients need reassurance, practical guidance and someone who will listen to their concerns. Her aim is to be a calm and approachable presence, whether supporting a client through a police station interview or helping them navigate the wider criminal justice process. She takes pride in helping clients feel heard, supported and informed throughout their case.

Outside of work, Courtney is a keen reader and rarely goes anywhere without her Kindle. She particularly enjoys crime thrillers and is always searching for her next great book. Among her favourite authors are Jeneva Rose, John Marrs, Claire McGowan and Freida McFadden. When she has a spare few minutes, you will often find her engrossed in the latest psychological thriller.
